Howard’s Team – Lots of Great News to Share

Spring has sprung!  That means more cycling in warmer weather.  It also means that Walk MS, and the official kickoff to our 2021 season, is almost here.  I am so excited for Howard’s Team.  I have A LOT of great news to share.

A Spectacular Year for Howard’s Team

2021 is a going to be a spectacular year for Howard’s Team in so many ways.  Three that come immediately to mind are 1) the team will be honored as the MS Society’s Hope Award recipient at the 2021 MS Auction, 2) we are very likely to exceed $2 million in funds raised, and 3) Bike MS Bay to Bay is back October 16th and 17th (see more on that below).  Wow!

Personally, after a year of lockdowns, and with the rollout of vaccines, I feel hopeful, renewed, and energized.  I would like to see Howard’s Team make this our most successful year ever as measured by overall rider engagement, new rider recruitment, and annual funds raised.  Will you join me?

Matt’s Big Ride

To get things started off right, I am excited to announce a new riding program designed to help anyone ride their first Century (a 100 mile ride).  It’s called “Matt’s Big Ride.”  Howard’s Team Rookie, Matt Attl, is new to cycling, and has set a goal to ride his first Century.  He’s asked for the team’s support to help him achieve that goal.  It’s inspiring to set a big goal and put a plan in place to achieve it.

Matt and I went on our first training ride on Saturday and it was a lot of fun (watch the video here: https://youtu.be/ctbQT-u_6m4).
Over the coming weeks we will be riding a simple up and back along the coast, building our mileage up to 100 miles.  It’s the perfect route to knock out that first Century.  Whether you’re new to cycling, or an experienced rider, I encourage you to join us.  All are welcome.

Join us next Saturday, April 3rd, ready to roll at 8 am from the Solana Beach City Hall.

Bike MS Bay to Bay is Back!  October 16th & 17th, 2021 at the Sheraton in Carlsbad

Over the last several months, and in preparation for the 2021 Bike MS season, the MS Society’s Bike MS Team has been working through various event scenarios to create the safest environment possible for participants, volunteers,‚ÄØstaff‚ÄØand host communities. They are continuing to shape this experience, but here’s the plan as it stands today:

There will be a 1-day, 2-day and virtual option
The ride will start/finish at the Sheraton in Carlsbad on both days
All routes will be a loop out of the Sheraton on BOTH days
We will have a short 25 mile(ish) option on one day, a 50 mile route option on both days and a longer 75-100 mile option on one day
